FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about booking and riding with Guardian Medical Services.

What is NEMT (non-emergency medical transportation)?

NEMT is scheduled transportation for people who need help getting to and from medical care but don't require an ambulance or emergency services. This includes doctor visits, dialysis, physical therapy, infusions, hospital discharges, and other healthcare appointments.

What types of transportation do you offer?

We provide ambulatory (for those who can walk with little or no help), wheelchair, and gurney transport. We also offer specialty services including bariatric transport, oxygen-tank accommodation, and long-distance trips. If you're not sure which fits, call us and we'll help you decide.

How far in advance should I book a ride?

We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance to guarantee availability, but we do our best to accommodate same-day and last-minute requests whenever possible. For recurring appointments like dialysis, we can set up a standing schedule.

Are you really available 24/7?

Yes. You can book a ride any time — day or night, weekday or weekend. Our phone line is open around the clock so there's always someone to help with scheduling and questions.

Do you accept insurance or Medicaid?

Guardian Medical Services is a private-pay provider. We do not bill insurance, Medicaid, or transportation brokers — which keeps scheduling fast and simple. Call us for current rates and a quote before your trip.

What areas do you serve?

We serve eleven Northern California counties: Sacramento, Placer, Yolo, Yuba, Sutter, Nevada, Solano, San Joaquin, Butte, Colusa, and Glenn. We also offer long-distance transport beyond this area — just ask when you book.

Can a family member or caregiver ride along?

Absolutely. We welcome one family member or caregiver to accompany the passenger at no additional charge. Just let us know when you book so we can plan for the extra seat.

What safety measures do you have in place?

Safety is our top priority. All drivers are HIPAA, First Aid, and CPR certified and fully background-checked. Our vehicles are regularly inspected and equipped with wheelchair lifts, securement systems, and safety equipment appropriate to each service level.

How do I cancel or reschedule a ride?

Just call us at (530) 453-6220 as early as you can — ideally at least 24 hours before your scheduled pickup. We understand medical plans change, and we'll work with you to adjust your transportation.

Is this an emergency service?

No. Guardian provides non-emergency medical transportation only. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, please call 911 immediately.
